Poros Hotel is an innovative hospitality project situated in Kağıthane, İstanbul, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and material choices. Originally conceived as a housing development, the project was reimagined as a hotel, carrying forward the same structural and environmental strategies developed for its residential design.

...

The project prioritizes earthquake resistance, achieved through a distinctive modulation design visible in the facade. The upper portion of the building mass is intentionally constructed to be lighter than the lower portion, enhancing stability and reducing vulnerability to seismic forces.

Hotel Rooms

The design of the building caters to contemporary hospitality demands, blending innovation, sustainability, and an enriching guest experience. The interior spaces of the rooms are meticulously crafted to foster a sense of spaciousness and openness, prioritizing the quality of the guest’s experience. In addition to eight regular floors that offer rooms of varying sizes, the project includes double cross, duplex, and penthouse suite modules on the top floors, as well as a retail space on the ground and basement levels.

Earthquake Resistance through Facade Development

The structural integrity of Poros Hotel is strategically achieved by positioning the center of mass closer to the ground level. This is accomplished by employing a modulated facade design, where the structural elements gradually increase in rhythm towards the lower portion of the building.

...

By reducing the weight of the upper portion of the structure, the center of mass is effectively repositioned, significantly enhancing the stability of the building’s center of gravity. This design approach empowers the structure to perform exceptionally well under seismic and other external loads. Additionally, the use of aerated concrete in the facade system helps to reduce the overall weight of the building.

Sustainability

Poros Hotel is committed to sustainable practices, incorporating advanced technologies to control the flow of energy throughout the building. By utilizing software-based systems, the project avoids the need for traditional heating and ventilation systems or environmentally harmful insulation materials. The building’s temperature stability is achieved through its own thermal mass, and the primary sources of heat are the occupants and the equipment within the building.

...

Moreover, the facade materials, such as ekoklinker, not only contribute to the aesthetic appeal but also generate heat. To ensure optimal indoor air quality, internally hinged, sensor-controlled ventilation panels are integrated into the windows, automatically opening when CO2 levels, air humidity, or room temperature rise.

...

Poros Hotel sets a new standard for sustainable and resilient hospitality in Kağıthane, Istanbul. By embracing cutting-edge design principles and prioritizing the well-being of its guests, the project offers a unique and fulfilling stay while promoting environmental responsibility.
