Quartz Plaza Receives the South East Europe Architecture Award
23 / 05 / 2026Quartz Plaza has been recognized with the South East Europe Architecture Award at BIG SEE Festival 2026 in Portorož, Slovenia. Beyond design recognition, the award highlights the project’s Modular Skin, a dual-skin envelope developed to address Istanbul’s specific climatic and geographic demands. Acting as an intelligent climate buffer, the facade actively mitigates energy costs and carbon impact, proposing a scalable model for future buildings in the region.

The award places Quartz Plaza among the region’s most significant recent examples of hybrid office and industrial architecture, recognized for translating a technical, climate-responsive facade system into a replicable design strategy. Located in Istanbul, the building was designed by Salon founder Alper Derinboğaz, whose research-driven approach to material systems and environmental performance has been central to the firm’s recent work, including his presentation of Quartz Plaza at the same BIG SEE Festival.
The South East Europe Architecture Award is presented annually by BIG SEE as part of its broader recognition of architecture, design, and innovation across the region.
