“I think there is a relationship between my architecture and being an artist. But painting dominated …. Dreams, even poems, dreams interfere with painting. ” – Cihat Burak

We are honoured to have our design chosen for the tomb of the loved Turkish painter Cihat Burak. We designed a tomb for the first time, and we found that it was not easy at all.

We would like to share this excerpt from the Jury Evaluation:

‘The proposal for Cihat Burak’s tomb design – as he put it in the project text – is to “present a reflection of himself to this unique imagination”. In this context, the different disciplines that make up Burak’s artistic identity – architecture, painting, literature, ceramics – are represented by four vertical stones in design. The form, material and height decisions of these masses, which refer to the tombstones that the artist frequently used in his paintings, were taken to form a group of forms that don’t repeat each other, but are closely connected to each other, creating diversity within unity. Rising just behind the headstone bearing the artist’s name, these stones evoke the dignified, natural majesty of the obelisks of ancient cultures. The difference in location, size and visibility between the headstone and the visitor leaves space for the imagination.’
